Aging Faith: Biblical and Personal Reflections on Growing Old

What happens to faith as we grow older? With the increasing demography of older people in this country, this is a very contemporary question. Does faith get harder or simpler? By looking at the biblical record concerning age and the ageing process, by offering some personal reflections about what might constitute a good theology of old age, and by sharing the outline of his own continuingly developing faith, John hopes to open up a conversation - not just for the older ones, but for all who are part of a multi-age church and world. 

John Schofield has been part of St Mark's congregation for some fourteen years. He is a retired priest, though not in active authorised ministry. He has been both a parish priest and a theological educator in pre and post ordination/licensing settings. He was chair of St Mark's Centre for Radical Christianity and facilitator of the Study and Learning Group. He is a spiritual accompanier, in which role he finds the sort of questions around which this evening is based are, overly or covertly, important.
