UK charitable giving

St Marks gives 3.33% of its yearly income to charities and good causes in the UK in addition to monies raised for local charities through the Broomhill Festival.

The Home Donations Committee considers applications for funds, and then recommends to the church’s decision making body, the Parochial Church Council (PCC), which charities we should support. Last year, we gave £6,260, with grants varying between £100 and £550.

We give some charities money on a regular basis, while others receive one-off support.

These are just some of the grants made last year:-

£550 to ASSIST www.assistsheffield.org.uk
£550 to The Childrens Society www.childrenssociety.org.uk
£250 to The Church Urban Fund www.cuf.org.uk
£250 to Church Action on Poverty www.church-poverty.org.uk
£250 to Fare Share www.fareshare.org.uk
£250 to Support Dogs www.support-dogs.org.uk
£200 to St Vincent’s Furniture Store www.svpfurniturestoresheffield.org.uk

The Home Donations Committee meets twice a year, usually in July and December, to consider funding requests and decide on the recommendations we will make to the PCC. We hear directly from some charities and are glad to get suggestions from church members. We would love to welcome new, keen members onto the committee!
