Vicar
Revd Canon Adrian Alker has been the vicar of St Marks since 1988. Ordained in 1979, Adrian was a curate at St Mary's Church in West Derby, Liverpool and was then Diocesan Youth Officer for the Diocese of Carlisle from 1983- 1988. Prior to entering the ministry, Adrian was a careers officer in local education authority work. In addition to his work as vicar of St Mark's, Adrian chairs the Broomhill Forum, the Broomhill Festival and is on the management committee of the Progressive Christianity Network Britain. He is secretary of the St Marks Centre for Radical Christianity (CRC). He was made an honorary canon of Sheffield Cathedral in 2005. He is married to Christine and has a son John who works in London.
Assistant Priest
Revd Sue Hobley has been assistant priest at St Marks since April 2005. Sue was a teacher of Modern Foreign Languages in various secondary schools in the North East for nearly 30 years. Ordained in 2001 she expected to remain in teaching and enjoyed 4 years as minister in secular employment and as self-supporting curate in the parish of St Lukes, Pallion and St Mark's Millfield in Sunderland. However life doesn't usually turn out as we plan and the time came to make changes and so she moved into stipendiary ministry at St Mark's. At the moment Sue is a member of the Executive Committee of Churches Together in Broomhill and Broomhall, sits on the Diocesan Board of Education and is a member of WATCH and Inclusive Church. She is married to Michael and has 2 step sons and a daughter, Catherine who works in the North East.
