Night service for Remembrance Sunday, held at the front of church

Night Service at St Mark’s is a simple act of worship using silence, music, readings and prayer to create space to be – experimental, reflective and exploratory. We use resources from a range of traditions, including the Iona and Taizé communities.

Night service is usually held towards the front of the church. The service begins at 8.00pm, lasts around 45 minutes, and is followed by a gathering time over refreshments.

A service of Holy Communion is held on the first Sunday of every month. The forthcoming night services are listed below:


  • Night Service - 'Practising Hopefulness'

    Sunday 26th February 8:00 pm
    A simple, open and reflective night service based on the same theme as the Lent course groups that begin this week. Led by Rev'd Ian Wallis.


  • Night Service - Holy Communion

    Sunday 4th March 8:00 pm
    A simple, open and reflective service of Holy Communion, led by Rev'd Sue Hammersley.


  • Night Service - "Vocation"

    Sunday 11th March 8:00 pm
    A simple, open and reflective night service based on the theme of Vocation. Led by Jelly Morgans


  • Night Service - Taizé

    Sunday 18th March 8:00 pm
    A night service for Lent in the style of a Taizé prayer.


  • Night Service - Holy Communion

    Sunday 1st April 8:00 pm
    A simple, open and reflective service of Holy Communion, led by Rev'd Ian Wallis.


  • Night Service

    Open, reflective services derived from a number of themes, including Iona and Taizé. 1st Sunday of the month - Holy Communion. The theme of this particular service has not yet been decided.
