Profile: Andrew Linn

Andrew took up the post of organist at St Mark’s in July 2011 after eleven years as Director of Music at St Matthew’s, Carver Street in Sheffield. This is a part-time position alongside his ‘day job’ as Professor of Linguistics at Sheffield University.

Before moving to Sheffield he lived in St Albans, Hertfordshire, where he was organist at two churches, and before that he was organ scholar at Emmanuel College, Cambridge in the 1990s alongside his other studies.

He has worked, twice, as an organist in Norway and this experience has proved to be a stimulus to his music making as well as to his research in linguistics.

Outside St Mark’s and the University, Andrew enjoys playing the viola in the local Endcliffe Orchestra as well as being a season ticket holder supporting Sheffield United! He says that his principal role in life, however, is as husband to Jo and as Dad to his four young children.

We are delighted to have him at St Mark’s!
