I have written several emails today to express my horror and dismay at the violent attack on vulnerable people in Finsbury Park.
“I want you to know that St Mark’s Church stands shoulder to shoulder with you at this time. If you, or any you are aware of in this community, feel threatened for any reason, please let us know so that we can share the burden with you. Such behaviour is abhorrent to Christians and Muslims alike, in fact to all people of faith and all people of integrity – in other words, most of us – so we must not let the actions of a few undermine the courage of the majority.
We stand beside you as you observe Ramadan, in the heat of the sun, and we share with you as you celebrate Iftar as communities of people at prayer, sharing food together. You are an example to us of faithfulness and remind us of the shared meal at the heart of our faith.
As you prepare to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, know that we are with you in spirit.
With love and prayers for peace,
Sue, and all your friends at St Mark’s”
